Collagen peptides
The base of the powder is collagen peptides of type I and III made from bovine collagen hydrolysate. They are broken down into small fragments, dissolve easily and taste neutral. What collagen is, which types exist and what the research says, you can read in the guide What Is Collagen?
Hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body, for example in the skin and in joint fluid, and can bind a lot of water. Sodium hyaluronate is the salt of hyaluronic acid and is often used in dietary supplements because it is easy to process. There are 50 mg per serving.
There are studies on taking it as a supplement, but the data is limited. In the EU there is no approved health claim for hyaluronic acid. That is why we do not promise you any specific effect.
Biotin
Biotin, also called vitamin B7 or vitamin H, is a water-soluble vitamin. The approved claim is: biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal skin and normal hair. It also contributes to normal energy metabolism and normal function of the nervous system.
Good to know: Very high-dose biotin supplements can distort certain lab results, for example thyroid tests. The amount in one serving is low. If a blood test is coming up anyway, mention your supplements to your doctor.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is important for the body's own collagen formation. The approved claim is: vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin, bones, cartilage, gums, teeth and blood vessels. It also contributes to the normal function of the immune system and helps protect cells from oxidative stress.
That is why vitamin C is so common in collagen powders: it fits the topic of collagen formation directly.
Vitamin D
Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, to normal muscle function and to the normal function of the immune system. The 1.5 µg per serving cover only part of your daily needs, though. They replace neither sunlight nor a vitamin D supplement recommended by your doctor. Especially in the darker months, it can be worth checking your vitamin D level with your doctor if in doubt.
Good to know
- The powder is neutral in taste and comes without added sugar or sweeteners.
- The collagen peptides come from cattle. It is not suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
- Traces of gluten, egg, soy and milk (including lactose) cannot be ruled out.
- Follow the recommended intake on the packaging. Dietary supplements are no substitute for a balanced and varied diet and a healthy lifestyle.
